Black Kites, Coerced, and Veloz were all terrific and it was everything we could have asked for in a last show. Keep a look out for pictures and video (thanx Anthony and Stroodles) in the near future.

Three weeks ago, we recorded False Hypothesis in our basement. It is currently being mixed and mastered. We will be putting up our discography download link in the very near future. It will include ten songs: False Hypothesis, 5 from the Dudes Don't Die tape, and 4 from the Split 7" w/Rip It Up. Keep reading this for accessibility to this download.

I leave you with a review from Jeff D., and a list of our past shows.

xoxo, RNJ

http://bleedingxedges.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Stressed Out- Dudes Don't Die (pro-tape)
I was expecting this tape to be more metal sounding after having seen Stressed Out somewhat recently. The second the first note hit, I thought the guitars sounded like Slayer- Reign in Blood tone. On their split w/ Rip It Up they had a more early 2000's era thrash sound, but now it looks like they completely changed into a late 80's crossover thrash band. The guitars are definitely metal (I guess that's what happens when "Metal Pete" and "Metal Joe" are in your band), but the song structure is definitely more on the HC side (verse-chorus-verse-chorus-breakdown-etc). I think if they just went straight thrash metal, and ditched any scrap of hardcore they'd be onto something there. I wish there were lyrics included (READ HERE), since a lot of bands like this tend to have terrible lyrics. This is way better than the average Municipal Waste rip-off band though.

Past Shows

1. 05.30.2008 @ Junkyard Palace (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ The Degenerics, Splitting Headache, Seasick, Zhenia Golov, Staring Problem
2. 07.15.2008 @ Party Mansion (Philadelphia, PA) w/ BSOM, Farcial Hoodwink, Hatchetface, Suburban Showdown
3. 08.02.2008 @ Death Valley (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Shitfit, Mirrors and Wires, Fruit Punch, Free Yon, Silent Way
4. 08.07.2008 @ America (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Vermefug, Cross Examination
5. 08.21.2008 @ The Fly Trap (West Berlin, NJ) w/ Balboa, The G
6. 10.31.2008 @ Death City (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Let Me Run, Torchbearer, Trophy Scars
7. 11.06.2008 @ Camelot (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Ramming Speed, Fleshtemple, Dystrophy, The Wayward
8. 11.14.2008 @ The Breadbox (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ My Turn To Win, Fleshtemple, Ashtray Dirt
9. 11.19.2008 @ Circle Of Hope (Philadelphia, PA) w/ Reazione, Mean Streets, Hate And War, On The Attack
10. 11.20.2008 @ Disappointment Island (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Wormeaters, Truck Fuck
11. 11.22.2008 @ America (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Killin' It
12. 12.05.2008 @ Meat Town USA (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Seasick, Psychothriller, Michael Jordan
13. 12.27.2008 @ America (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Killin' It, Thriller, Perdition, To Live and Die in NJ
14. 12.28.2008 @ Vermont Hurler (Silver Spring, MD) w/ Ante Up, Control
15. 01.06.2009 @ Camelot (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Cringe, Shitfit, Slaw, To Live and Die in NJ
16. 03.15.2009 @ 21 Jump Street (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Seasick, Killin It!, Plague Bearers
17. 03.21.2009 @ BETHieHOUS (Bethlehem, PA) w/ Rip It Up, This Bamboo Stick, Groove Joom
18. 03.22.2009 @ Charm City Art Space (Baltimore, MD) w/ Rip It Up, Cringe, Witch Hat, Discourse
19. 03.28.2009 @ Studio Luloo (Oaklyn, NJ) w/ Drive-Thru Pharmacy, Tube Disasters, General Strike
20. 04.05.2009 @ The Breadbox (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Rip It Up, La Crisi, Strength Approach
21. 05.15.2009 @ Camelot (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Rip It Up, Dystrophy, Burden
22. 05.29.2009 @ JR’s Bar (Philadelphia, PA) w/ Teenage Whore-Moans, Rustbelt Homewreckers, Loafass
23. 06.06.2009 @ Yellow House (Brooklyn, NY) w/ Black Wing, Consumer Feedback, No One And The Somebodies
24. 06.29.2009 @ Planet Piss (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ The Best Of The Worst, The New Urban Sprawl, The Sterling, Until Faces Change
25. 07.09.2009 @ The Court Tavern (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Murphy's Law, Torchbearer, Somerville Town Drunks
26. 07.26.2009 @ Camp Anawanna (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Shitfit, Just Die!, Outlast
27. 07.29.2009 @ 21 Jump Street (New Brunswick, NJ) w/ Pizza Hi Five, Shit The Floor, Tuff Shit!
28. 08.01.2009 @ Charm City Art Space (Baltimore, MD) w/ Rip It Up, Destined For Nothing, Pedals On Our Pirate Ships
29. 08.03.2009 @ Bangcock (Harrisonburg, VA) w/ Rip It Up, Vomiting Dinosaurs
30. 08.04.2009 @ 720 Reed Street (Asheville, NC) w/ Rip It Up, Just Die!
31. 08.05.2009 @ Hardcore House (Murfreesboro, TN) w/ Rip It Up, Desperate Measures, Wolf Larson, Brainwreck
32. 08.06.2009 @ The 1511 (Indianapolis, IN) w/ Rip It Up, Black Teeth, Rattletooth
33. 08.07.2009 @ Psycho Hall (Galesburg, IL) w/ Rip It Up, Cracks, Fierce Amateurs
34. 08.08.2009 @ The Leathershop (Lima, OH) w/ Rip It Up, Drunk Surgeon
35. 08.09.2009 @ Dayton Dirt Collective (Dayton, OH) w/ Rip It Up, The Pledge, Former Thieves, Led Astray, Pushed Aside
36. 08.10.2009 @ Kopec’s Bar (Pittsburgh, PA) w/ Rip It Up, The Catalyst, Plastered Bastards
37. 08.11.2009 @ Breakfast and Dessert (Philadelphia, PA) w/ Rip It Up, Worlds, Cut Short
38. 08.12.2009 @ Tom's Backyard (Saint James, NY) w/ Rip It Up, Worlds, Enraged, Team Havoc, Versus All
39. 08.13.2009 @ The Pyramid Club (New York, NY) w/ Rip It Up, Worlds, Cake Vs. This band has been so much fun and so important to my mental health. The past two years have been terrific and have meant more to me as a person than I can currently express in words.

It totally sucks, but let's all make this last show a positive end for us all. It is with Black Kites (who are outstanding) and Coerced and Veloz, who are both from Boston. We may put out another tape for this June 5 show. I am not sure, being that this is sixteen days away.

I want to take this time to thank a bunch of people.

Mike Davis, thank you for being the ‘sixth member’ of this band. You supported us at every local show we played and were there from the very beginning when we sucked. You always looked out for me. You contributed more to the band than I did at some points. The band is comprised of members of other Jersey bands like John Wilkes Youth, Dystrophy and Dethroned Emperor. Having only heard John Wilkes Youth I figured these guys fell on the hardcore side of the fence. While they definitely have a hardcore sound, there is much more thrash going on here.

The guitars on this five song cassette are what you would expect from a thrash focused release. Fast riffing, squealing guitar solos and stomping riffs to contrast the faster parts. Still this recording sounds like vintage hardcore. It's snotty and pissed and sounds pretty much exactly like what you expect a young thrash influenced hardcore band to sound like. The band sounds more like Life's Halt than Nuclear Assault. It's not a bad thing, but it isn't quite my thing.

I like crossover, but I prefer hardcore to sound like hardcore and thrash to sound like thrash. Nothing wrong with mixing the two, but I'm real picky when it comes down to it. Stressed Out are a good band and can surely play their istruments, but this EP is somewhat forgettable. I've listened to it about ten times already this morning and none of these songs are sticking, some of the riffs, but only for a couple of seconds.

Fortunately for Stressed Out there are plenty of people who will dig this and I encourage anyone into this style of thrash/hardcore to check them out and decide for yourself.STRESSED OUThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11750581146693327798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5297888792626826877.post-58795122691860797442010-05-11T11:18:00.003-04:002010-05-11T11:35:51.712-04:00may updatehello everyone. right now we have three upcoming shows:

- Fri. All you want to know is which Arrested Development character they thanked on the liner notes. The answer is Tobias. If you like good hardcore punk bands who watch great comedy television programs, you can’t go wrong with Rip It Up. Stressed Out thanks a lot of people I’ve never heard of. Obviously, they are lesser human beings for not thanking a fictional character. B+. I still don’t trust download codes though. –Bryan Static (Self-released)

http://bleedingedges.net/blog/2010/02/record-reviews-winter-2010.html

Stressed Out/ Rip It Up
This is a split between 2 NJ bands who have toured together in the past. Stressed Out kick things off playing thrashy hardcore similar to Cut The Shit or Bones Brigade. I seem to remember their demo having a little bit more metal/crossover influence. Aside from one (poorly) overdubbed solo in "Deer Blood," it's pretty much a straight thrasher. The lyrics are more socially conscious than the average party thrash band, which is really nice to see. On the flip side Rip It up kick things off with a really moshy intro. I kind of wish their songs were more along the lines of this intro, as the rest of their songs are more fast. I think musically, this reminds me a lot of the first Suicidal Tendencies LP. Overall, the songs could be a little tighter, but I think if they have some potential. A solid split by 2 newer local bands.
STRESSED OUThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11750581146693327798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5297888792626826877.post-60600937445526692422010-03-12T14:06:00.005-05:002010-03-12T14:35:41.966-05:00March 28: Stressed Out and Black Kites cassette release showhello everyone. thanks to everyone who came out two weeks ago to support our iowa friends former thieves. wow, do those dudes wail! check out their one-sided (non-)LP "the great and the alleged great." it's terrific. ter-RIFF-ic.

we are very excited to release our tape in two weeks with our good friends black kites. you can pre-order the DUDES DON'T DIE tapes here: ridethefury.bigcartel.com if you cannot attend the release show March 28. they are $5.00 USD shipped to your door.

in case you have been sleeping, seriously listen to black kites. they are currently one of my three favorite bands in new jersey. can you guess the other two? here is a hint: they are all vegan and/or straight edge. this guessing game is probably not fun for anyone except jordan bard and myself though.

here are the shows we are playing for the remainder of March:

Sat. Stressed Out and Rip It Up knock out this eight-song, sub-10-minute split that provides just that.

Stressed Out come up first with a solid four tracks of snotty and pissed franticness. The recording is great, a lot clearer than you might hear for young bands doing this style of hardcore, and it makes the band's songs sharp and effective, though they mostly seem to serve as a foundation for something much greater, hinted at by more major chords in their "band title" song, "Stressed Out," and typically overlapping vocal rambling in "Deer Blood." Also like their nod to Milhouse in the liner notes...hopefully it's the Milhouse I'm thinking of.

Rip It Up do a similar thing, but a little meaner, dirtier and with more fast parts, although they can be a little jokier with their lyrical content. "Grind the Edge" is a funny skate-edge anthem and "Die-o-Rama," is, well, a zombie apocalypse-type story of armageddon. I know Seasick has only been a band for a couple years around those parts, but musically, I think they might have an influence on these guys. Maybe.STRESSED OUThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11750581146693327798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5297888792626826877.post-72869881545752660842009-12-21T17:05:00.001-05:002009-12-21T17:08:08.836-05:00S.O. (also, S.O. is not a straight edge band.)

band i'm listening to right now: WORLDS. worldshc.tumblr.com / myspace.com/worldshc

xoxo, rnj

http://www.scenepointblank.com/reviews/2755

Self-released split 7”s are a rarity these days. This one features two bands from the state of New Jersey with both bands offering their take on straight edge hardcore.

Stressed Out play fairly straightforward aggressive hardcore punk. It's got a definite vintage approach; though they do work in some thrash metal flair with solos. I think the band's strongest aspect is their lyrics, which tackle familiar topics - peer pressure, immigration, and animal rights - in a unique manner. This is the type of band you'd see at a house show and end up drenched in sweat after screaming along for their entire set.

Rip it Up venture in a slightly different direction, bringing in a power violence approach to hardcore. “Torches. Demons.” features the fast paced aggression of Infest or Trash Talk. “Grind the Edge” might be the best pro-edge song I've heard in a long time. Again, another band perfect for house shows.

If I lived in Jersey I'd probably be good friends with these bands and enjoy going to all their shows. If they happen to hit your town you shouldn't think twice about seeing them.

http://definethemeaning.com/2009/11/02/stressed-out/

Stressed Out are a punk/thrash band from New Brunswick, NJ who play fast, thrashy, short songs infused with angry vocals that are like marriage to the aggression of the drums, bass and guitars on these four songs displayed on this split 7″ with Rip It Up, another NJ band of the same genre. The lyrics are very transparent in dealing with the everyday woes of today’s society and the feelings that it brings out, whether it be the choice to be a vegetarian or to speculate on someone’s hardships and learn from it by imagining yourself in their shoes (which more people should do these days). My personal favorite is the song “Stressed Out” with its straight-forward feelings of self-loathing and despair. The songs run right into each other without much room to breathe and this goes well with the overall urgent feel of the record. There are slight traces of Suicidal Tendencies and perhaps even Washington DC’s State of Alert and Minor Threat so if you are into this kind of sound, you will be into this record.

Rip It Up play fast, crunchy, moshy punk/thrash as well that sounds like great punk basement music, and this is meant in a good way, of course. The vocals are done well on both bands as you can feel them rather than just hear them. Also, this is great artwork. Notice the “X” is only on one of his hands. Can you guess which of these bands are straight edge? Check em out below!

www.myspace.com/stressedoutnj
www.myspace.com/xripitupx

http://www.bleedingedges.net/blog/archive/2008_09_01_archive.html

Stressed Out (cdr)

Another new local band, which is always nice to see. The music is pretty thrashy, but more in an Anthrax kinda way. It's not really metal at all, but there's definitely some crossover parts. The vocals are remind me of Life's Halt though, but the lyrics are a little on the goofy side.

http://www.centerfuse.net/reviews/Stressed-Out-demo-review/1162

(old review; i think this link is broken.)

Stressed Out demo, reviewed by sick_fuckin_o on June 19, 2008

Four songs here, and regardless of the packaging, this is not a weak Municipal Waste rip-off. Sure the opening riff may or may not have been lifted from some obscure mid-80's speed metal cross-over record, but from then on Stressed Out deliver fast, sloppy, original punk. Think a sloppier, less-focused No Reply. Richard's vocals sound stunningly close to Ernie from Life's Halt, but without the boring preaching lyrics LH adopted later in their lifespan. Pretty lighthearted lyrical content for the most part- horror movies, calling out dicks, and a tribute to dudes banging older women... Yet, incongruously, the last song is a tongue-in-cheek take on the punk community's views of sexuality. Each track comes with an explanation of the lyrics- although sometimes the explanations are longer than the songs themselves.

These four songs lead me to believe Stressed Out is on their way to finding their identity. Not entirely flippant, not entirely serious, 100% DIY. If you're a fan of 2000-era HC, like Life's Halt, Dirty Dirt and the Dirts, etc. give this a spin (http://www.myspace.com/stressedoutnj). I can't wait to hear the next step Stressed Out takes.STRESSED OUThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11750581146693327798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5297888792626826877.post-27613675087450208732009-11-14T14:42:00.003-05:002009-11-14T15:41:55.536-05:00shirtswe have new shirts. let me know if you would like one and i'll get it to you asap.

$8 in person or $10 USD via PayPal to stressedoutnj[AT]gmail[DOT]com
Specify size(s), color(s), and mailing address.
Sizes available: Youth Large, Small, Medium, Large, X-Large.
Colors available: Blue, Red.

if you would like our old shirt with the yellow v-neck guitar on it, let me know. $5 in person, a little more if shipped to you. i think we have three left, they're all medium and large.STRESSED OUThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11750581146693327798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5297888792626826877.post-88293137652799659312009-11-02T14:29:00.001-05:002009-11-02T14:31:10.517-05:00ReviewReview of our split 7" with Rip It Up posted at definethemeaning.com

Direct link: http://definethemeaning.com/2009/11/02/stressed-out/STRESSED OUThttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11750581146693327798noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5297888792626826877.post-21538242828024310702009-11-01T17:08:00.002-05:002009-11-01T17:25:02.716-05:00stressed out news, mini-tour, records, etc.
yo everyone! here is what's up with us.

We're hitting the road for six days from December 29 to January 3.
